about

David West Beale bucked a trend at the tender age of four by not making his first fish a perch. Rather perversely it was a Thames bleak and this set in train a deep seated fish-envy for which therapy has been sought for a lifetime since.

Although sometimes within a mutually supportive group, this may also take the form of long and solitary forays into the esoterica of fixed line fly fishing with horsehair lines and medieval fly patterns.

Recent career highlights include helping his son to land a new UK record ruffe but forgetting to bring the scales.

As well as here, David's angling & writing can often been found in the pages of Fallon's Angler, and has also appeared in Fly Fishing & Fly Tying, Total Flyfisher and Tenkara Angler in the USA. A regular contributor to The Piscatorial Raconteurs & Friends, David has also written essays appearing in the book Tenkara "Sasoi" by Dr Paul Gaskell.

While currently working on an angling based novel, David is happy to consider freelance writing & feature commissions and can be contacted at davidwestbeale@gmail.com
